This month, we are bringing you two critically-acclaimed documentary films, made by filmmakers in Trinidad & Tobago – “My Father’s Land,” by Tyler Johnston and Miquel Galofre, and “Smallman,” by Mariel Brown.  Both films will at two different venues in Brooklyn.

“My Father’s Land,” tells the story of Papa Jah, a Haitian gardener, has spent the last forty years in the Bahamas, living in a marginalised community named the Mud. When news arrives that his 103-year-old father has taken ill back in Haiti, Papa Jah fears he may not see him before he passes. Papa Jah travels back to Haiti, to his family’s small village on the island La Tortue, to reunite with his father, hopefully before it is too late.

Kenwyn Rawlins had a passion for making things. In a workshop beneath his house he made push toys, model battleships, miniature furniture and dolls’ houses. Smallmanis an exploration of the world that Kenwyn Rawlins made, as told by his son Richard.
